Santa's Special Trip

On Saturday,( December 14, 2013), we went to our ward Christmas party. It started off with the Junior Primary children, Ethan, singing The Nativity song while the Senior Primary kids acted out the song. Then some of the other Senior Primary kids played two Christmas songs on pipes. It was very cute but we did laugh a little through the pipe arraignments because a child kept forgetting it was his/her turn to hit their pipe.
Then they had us sing The 12 Days of Christmas. This is not my favorite song and honestly I was dreading it a little but it was actually fun. They divided the audience into 12 groups. Obviously, each group was assigned a part or number to sing for the 12 Days of Christmas. It was hilarious. Group nine was the missionaries, who got to sing nine ladies dancing. We didn't go over our lines before the song, so some groups didn't know what their line was and then we mixed up ten and eleven. Group one kept trying to do something silly and different when singing their line. Sometimes we weren't even singing, we were mainly shouting the song. Not bragging or anything but I think group two did a great job. (That was our group.)
Then the highlight of the night for the kids was Santa coming out. Funny, Santa reminded me of Brother Jenkins. Santa sat in his chair and read them The Christmas Orange book. He did a wonderful job in reading the story, he had most of the kids attention. Ethan listened to the whole thing and we really absorbed in the story but Addison was being a little silly with Daddy. Then the kids were able to sit on Santa's lap.
Ethan got right in line. He has been excited all month long to see Santa and tell him what he wants for Christmas. Grammy watched him in line and videoed him sitting on Santa's lap but when Santa asked him what he wanted for Christmas, Ethan drew a blank. He couldn't remember what he wanted. Santa gave him a Christmas orange and big candy cane with a smile. Ethan came to me so disappointed. I asked him what he told Santa he wanted for Christmas and with a sad face he said, "aa." I was confused by that and asked him again if he told Santa what he wanted for Christmas and Ethan again said, "aa." Then he told me really sad that he forgot what he wanted and all he said was a. I felt bad for him too. He had been looking forward to this so much.

It took Addison a few pep talks and letting her watch other kids sitting on Santa's lap to get her to go see Santa. We were all waiting for her to cry or freeze on her lap but she didn't have a problem. I think she only agree to do it for the orange and candy cane that she saw him passing out to other kids. Ethan also stood with us in line and sat back on Santa's lap. He remembered that he wanted to tell Santa he wanted the Marvel Lego game. I don't think Santa understood what he said but with a smile and friendly voice, he told Ethan he would see what he could do. I think Addison really liked Santa I think that she thought his voice was soothing and familiar. Just like Brother Jenkins voice that comes and plays with them in nursery.
During the Santa time, there were also finger food goodies to sample. So everyone swarmed the dessert table and talked to one another. It was a very fun and pleasant evening. It is nice to go see and be around people and then come out with a happy, excited family. Christmas is a wonderful time of  the year.
