Watkins Week of HECK

This previous weekend we had the privilege to go to Nampa, Idaho and participate in my Grandma's Ashcraft's funeral. We left Thursday after Matthew got out of school around four and we drove to Nampa and got there around five that morning. Like I said, we were able to attend the funeral, which was beautiful, heartfelt and spiritual. The unfortunate thing was our family had to leave the day after the funeral, Saturday, and drive the thirteen hours back to get home and give Matthew time to get ready for his next week of school.
What was really unfortunate, though, was what happened during this next week. We got back Saturday about ten at night. On Sunday we woke to Ethan not feeling good. He was already a little congested in the nose and had a little cough, but he woke with a fever. On Monday his fever was worse and we noticed that his eyes were red and goopy. Great pink eye. On Monday, even though I had Ethan home sick, I did the fun job of unpacking, laundry, cleaning the house and by afternoon I was starting to feel achy and had a sore throat. I thought it was from pushing myself a little and on little sleep. Also, I had been cleaning all the windows and bathrooms with bleach to rid of some mold. Little did I know that I caught Ethan's terrible bug. You will hear how terrible soon.
Well, I called the doctor as soon as they opened on Tuesday and was lucky to get Ethan in that day. Just before we go to Ethan's doctor's appointment I notice Addison's eyes are also red and even goopier than Ethan's. When the doctor comes in to see us, she assumes that she is seeing Addison because her eyes are worse than Ethan. When I explain that we made the appointment for Ethan but that after I made the appointment my daughter started to get symptoms she looked over at Ethan who is lifeless and suffering and the doctor herself looks like she might be in tears herself. In the end, Ethan had a very inflamed throat, she said both ears are severally infected, and both Addison and Ethan had pink eye. So she gave Ethan an antibiotic, ear drops and eye drops that we have to do four times a day for at least five days. They checked Addison as well and said all she had was pink eye and prescribed the drops.
Well, later that day guess who has a fever and complaining that her tummy hurts constantly? Addison is next telling me her tummy hurts and her fever is worse than Ethan's. I call to get her into the doctor again but the only time they could get her in was on Thursday. We decided to tough it and have her live on Tylenol until Thursday because I have gone to the quik care and wasn't impressed. So she lived on Tylenol Wednesday. Ethan is still lifeless and enduring the many drops and medications.
During these couple days, I forget to mention that I am very achy, espically in my hips down. My throat is burning and I have a fever as well. I don't know if my brain was fried becuase of the fever or if I really am that dumb but I still went to cub scouts on Tuesday because I was encharge of teaching the achievement and I had all the stuff for it. I told the scout and other leaders that I was sick and had them do all the work and stayed away from them as much as possible. I thought I just had a sore throat and was overly tired but now I realized that I was dumb, that I went to cub scouts with strep throat, and an ear infection. I have been praying very hard every night that I did not spread this to my scouts. Then I was dumb on Wednesday night and went driving around town, still as sick and tired. I had to pick up Addison's eye drops because later becuase they didn't call it in and I was helping Matthew gather supplies for his lesson that he knew he was getting observed on tomorrow. On the way home, I hit the median on the drivers side and thought I had totaled the car. I was so shook up, I pulled over at a Chevron, to check the damage, which in the end I just bent the rim of the tire. It wasn't even flat, yet. I called Matthew crying and making sure it was still okay to drive home. I got the last set of drop in the kids and got them to bed, finished getting Matthew's project done for his lesson. Duct taped Tuggles dog crate together, becuase he chewed a big hole in the bottom of it and now is smart to tip it on its side and get out of it. (Smart but naughty dog.) Took more Tylenol that I have been living on the last three days, soaked in the tub to help my aching legs and literally crawled into bed.
Thursday morning we woke and went to drop Daddy off to school so we could get to Addison's doctors appointment. On the way to dropping Daddy off we found out that the tire Mommy hit hard was leaking air and was almost flat. So after dropping Daddy off us sicklings went to Walmart to get the tire changed. Mommy must have not communicated well because they said they couldn't fix the tire and in the end said they would just put the donut on for us. I was trying to just buy a new tire and in the end we didn't have a donut but a spare tire in the back of the car, thank goodness. Then we went to the doctor appointment, which Addison had the same thing as Ethan just a little more intense. Her fever was higher and they said her ears were probably more extreme than Ethan's. That's is when they told me the kids had strep throat. Like I said, I should have known that because of the fevers but this is when I put two and two together and realize that I probably have strep throat and an ear infection as well. We got Addison on the same medication, which of course we had complication in getting and I had to get the ear drop after we got Daddy from work. Also had to go to the library and return a movie that was a day late and was on hold. Ethan is doing lots better this day and has even gotten in a little trouble for being a stinker. When the kids have been drugged, with their last set of drops and asleep in bed, I am in tears because of how sore my throat is. So I go on the hunt for a family doctor to set an appointment for myself.
By the way Matthew, also has been struggling with the same thing but he drugs himself up every day with DayQuil and goes to school anyway because he says he can't miss a day of work at the moment. Poor Matthew just goes to school, comes home and watches the kids while I make the errands for medication and such. Then he tries to catch a little rest when I get home until it's time to put the kids to bed. Then he plans his lessons plans for the next day, listens to his wife cry and whine then watches an episode of something on T.V. to wind down and then goes to bed to start it up again the next day.
Today, I have an appointment to see a family doctor to get rid of my strep throat and ear infection and I am encouraging Matthew to do the same tomorrow. Hopefully, we will be a functioning family this next week and get back into our routine. Tuggle (our new puppy) is hoping we all get better so we can take him back on his walks and give him some attention again.
Fingers crossed for a better week next week in the at least the health department.
