Piano Beginnings

Since school has started, we have had piano lessons for Ethan and reading practice in Addison's daily routine.  It has only been a few weeks of school and I feel for only a few weeks my kids have taken on in both of these areas.
Mommy is giving Ethan piano lessons and using him as a guinea pig in getting ready to teach other kids piano. Like I said, Ethan has taken off in learning the piano. In a few short weeks, he knows his notes, plays beginner primary songs, has memorized almost five songs and plays both hands together. As you can see in the video clip below, he is proud of himself for being able to play both hands in his Halloween song. He even has it memorized but wanted to have the book since we were recording. (Sorry, we turned off all noises before recording but their isn't a way to turn the off the dog who is on a buzz and squeaking his ball.) He is also excited that he has almost memorized five songs. With mommy's system for piano lessons, if they get five punches on the memorize punch card they get a big prize out of the piano bench. He's almost there!!!! They also get prizes for practicing in the week. So far it has been working. Probably a little to good.
Addison liked the prize idea and wanted in on the action. So Mommy had to find a way for her to also earn prizes like Ethan. Since Addison is so smart and already knows her ABC's and 123's and much more, we decided to take it up a level and start reading. In the video below of her reading, she chose the easiest book that we have colored and read to read. She was being stubborn and didn't really want to read at all but she has been reading well. Anyway, Addison earns prizes by doing a program called reading eggs everyday and then she gets punches on her reading card when she can read a beginner book all by herself with the words that she is learning. She has already got one prize out of the bench but its taking her a little longer go get the second one since the words are getting harder. She has taken off as well, though and is to smart for her own good.
The only reason for this post was yes, to brag about how smart and awesome my kids are but also because we found the video camera in the drawer and the kids of course wanted me to record them doing something. They were really excited when we thought of showing off their talents. Now they will be bugging me constantly to record them doing songs and reading all the time. I love my kids!!!
