This Labor Day, Ethan, Addison, and I had a four day weekend. Friday was a teacher in service, which means meetings for Daddy, but day off for students. Then Monday was Labor Day. Since it was a long weekend, Matthew's cousin (now Kayla Mesler) had her wedding on Labor Day. We decided to go to support her and congratulate them.
Our Toyota Camry has been acting funny and honestly I am waiting for it any day to just not start. Only because of this issue, we were almost not going to go to the wedding but with the generosity of Matthew's parents, they offered to help pay for a rental car. So we packed up Saturday morning, went and rented a rental car and were on our way. Because of some miss communication about how to get the rental car, we actually left the house later than we would have liked but thought we would still make it.
We also were taking Tuggle, our dog, for the first time on a long trip. To be honest, I was dreading this trip, mainly because of not know how well Tuggle would travel and having a time crunch to drive all day Saturday to make it to the wedding in the evening. I was, though, presently surprised that Tuggle, traveled. In fact, we would have forgotten we had a dog with us on the trip, except that the kids were so excited to be taking Tuggle. We were in a hurry, so rest stops were short and to the kids, defiantly not long enough. Addison got car sick again, but since she is used to it, she ask for the cup to throw up and then we would pull over and dump it in the bushes. I was especially nervous about Addison's car sickness since we were traveling in a rental car but Addison didn't get one drop of throw up even on her. She is getting to be a pro at this car sickness.
When we got to Grammy Greats house (where the wedding was held) we thought we made it with thirty minutes to spare. So we hurried in the house, changed into our wedding clothes and thought we were ready for the wedding. We found out though that we did miss the wedding. The invitation said that the wedding was from 6:30-8:30pm but that was the reception times. There wedding started at 5:30 pm and so we had just missed. Matthew and I were really bummed but we were still happy that we were able to see the cute couple and congratulate them on their life together. Then we went and stayed at our pet friendly hotel. We had pizza delivered, which thrilled the kids and then we divided up the beds and who was sleeping with who. Daddy got Ethan and I got Addison. I think the kids were the only one who slept though, because Ethan is a wiggle worm and he breaths really heavy. Tuggle also moves around in the night and when anyone got up to go to the bathroom he would whine a little. Daddy and Mommy were glad it was only one night.
We were then planning on getting up early Sunday and getting home before 4pm when we had to get the rental car back but Matthew's parents convinced us to pay some late fees for the rental car so we could stay longer and help celebrate Alex's birthday. Matthew and I didn't have to be persuaded to hard because we didn't really want to feel rushed in getting back. So on Sunday we had a pleasant visit at Grammy Greats house. Tuggle and the kids had a blast in running around outside in Grammy Great's back yard. Tuggle also learned to play with Macy and Molly (Grammy and Grammy-Great's dogs). We had it confirmed that Tuggle is not an aggressive dog and would just lay down at Macy's feet and whine, saying he surrendered to her and would only like to play. Tuggle also played very well with the other little kids in the yard. Like I said, the kids also enjoyed running around in Grammy Great's big backyard and I enjoyed it because it is all fenced off, so I didn't have to worry about the kids getting hurt or running off.
We sang Happy Birthday to Alex and shared his really yummy chocolate cake and watched him open his gifts. Then we all sat around talking and catching up with everyone. It was very enjoyable and made it very hard to leave, but eventually we had to pack up everyone and head out. We took our time getting home. Taking longer breaks on the way home. When we got home it was very late. Close to midnight but was made it safe and sound. For a very short trip and a trip that I kind of dreaded, it was a great trip and one that I feel I needed.
