Mixed Feelings of 1st Grade

Again, a little behind on posting the happenings of our family. Ethan has now been in first grade for a couple of weeks and we both have different feelings. We went to open house the Friday before school to meet his teachers. We were both impressed right away with his teacher, Mrs. Fenkell. She seemed fun, nice and pretty. He liked her even more when he heard that he wouldn't have packet work for homework anymore. For homework, he just has spelling words, sight words, reading and whatever he doesn't finish at school. He was also excited that he gets to play on the older playground and not the kindergarten playground.
Since we dropped off all of Ethan's school supplies at the open house, Ethan went on the school bus the first day of school. Mommy was planning on driving him to school the first day but Ethan was insistent that he was going to ride the school bus on the first day. There are pictures below of Ethan getting on the bus the first day.
This was also, Ethan's first day of all day school. My kids have never taken naps so I wasn't really worried about him whinning about wanting a nap but it is still an adjustment to be in school all day long. I was still worried that he might be tired and dragging. So far, Ethan has loved being in school all day. The first week he packed lunches and snacks for snack time. Then this week he had the school lunches, which he loves. (See how long that lasts). He has loved, loved, loved P.E. and the other specials at school and so far the homework hasn't been terrible. Mainly reading so he has still had time to play his Minecraft. It sounds like he is making friends and he thinks that his teacher has a little crush on him because she called him a cutie and shared a graham cracker. First grade has been awesome. The only down fall is waking up early, which will only get harder.

Now for Mommy and even Addison's feelings on this first grade business. We aren't loving it as much as Ethan is. We miss having Ethan to play games and read stories with us. We don't like getting up early to take Ethan to the bus stop (especially Addison) who like I said doesn't take naps, so has a very hard time getting out of bed and then gets tired at dinner time but Mommy thinks it's to late to nap because then she stays up till midnight. Then after school there is not a lot of time to play with Ethan since we eat dinner, do homework, pack lunches, baths and bed time is at 7:30 p.m. on school days so Daddy and Ethan have a half hour to read the Narnia books together. I know that as he gets older and moves up grade levels that life will only get more chaotic but I already don't like it. I am used to having time to build legos, write stories or just talk to Ethan whenever I want and that has been interrupted by school. But like every mother, I just have to suck it up, let him grow up and move on.
At the same time, this will be good for Mommy and Addison. Addison and I have butted heads since she was born. We are both stubborn and strong headed. So this is giving us a chance to have one on one time and learn to get a long. Not saying that we haven't been able to do that but Addison will hopefully see that Mommy does love her and that we can have fun together and Mommy is not just a bossy Mommy but also fun.
